Daren Smith founded Smiley Renovations in 1997 after many years of experience in the renovation and construction business. The company is named for an uncle of Daren’s. Daren works very closely with each client identifying challenges and designing solutions to meet their specific needs. Everyone at Smiley Renovations works hard to keep you informed during the entire process. We are all about showing up on time, finishing the job in a timely manner and instilling value for the client. In the end, we like to create great spaces that people enjoy for years to come!
Steve Mitchell, Sales and Project Coordinator
Steve has over 20 years of experience in real estate/construction where he worked in sales, managing renovation projects, and building custom homes. “I chose Smiley because of their outstanding reputation, exceptional build quality and top notch customer service.” Steve enjoys collaborating with clients along with our talented team members to create amazing one of a kind spaces through our seamless design-build process.
Josh Smithson, Best Practices/ Quality Control/ Lead Carpenter
Josh joined the Smiley team in 2001. Having been in the business since high school he brings experience and expertise in the trade to Smiley. Josh has been intimately involved in all CotY Awards, Professional Remodeler Design Awards and Chrysalis Awards won by Smiley. His specialty is in Masonry. He is EPA certified.
Matthew Bailey, Lead Carpenter
Matt has been with Smiley for three years. He has over ten years of experience in the repair and remodeling trades. He spent five years as a cabinet maker, finisher and installer.
Justin Barends, Project Manager
Justin joined the Smiley team in February of 2019. Justin has a degree in Environmental Science with a concentration in Climate and a minor in Mathematics. Justin is helping Smiley to become more eco friendly including improving our environmental sustainability, reducing our construction waste and overall being more green!!
Kathy M., Business and Finance Director
Kathy has been working with Smiley since 2009. She enjoys working with clients and helping them with the renovation process. She has over 50 years’ experience in sales and service.
In her spare time, she enjoys doing volunteer work with her church and community and spending time with her Grandchildren.
Revathi Veerla – Cost Estimator,
Revathi joined the Smiley staff in the summer of 2018. Her detailed oriented and organized nature are a perfect match for the Cost Estimator position. Revathi has a Masters of Science and Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree. She has experience in all phases of construction. When she is not at work you can find Revathi cooking up something delicious or with her head in a good book!
Toni Celtnieks, Bookkeeper
Toni Jones Celtnieks is the newest member of Smiley Renovations office staff. With over twenty years accounting experience retirement was not in her future plans so a part time position was just the right fit for both employer and employee!
Jara Shapiro, Marketing Director/ Office Manager
Jara Shapiro joined the Smiley team in November of 2013. Previously she worked in the New York City art world, working in top museums, galleries and most recently was a private art dealer. She decided to switch gears when moving with her family to Maryland. “What attracted me to Smiley was the incredible way they treat their clients. In addition, the one stop shopping mentality, they are with you from the design part of the project to the very end.”
Jamie Levin, Project Coordinator
For the past 20 years Jamie had been an art consultant using her design skills to translate the clients ideas into artwork. She wanted to work more in design and that is what led her to Smiley Renovations. Jamie loves being around people and most of all helping them make the most important decisions for their home renovations. When Jamie is not working you can find her spending time with her family.
Francisco Canas, Carpenter
Francisco comes to us with his knowledge of cabinetry and extensive construction. Francisco successful completes all jobs given to him, which include
completing on time, on budget, while maintaining a high level of quality and safety always.
